2021 Annual Gala: The Play’s the Thing

With guest of honor Sir Tom Stoppard

Join us for a festive celebration of the legacy of Vaclav Havel and Czech and Slovak communities’ presence in New York!

The evening’s highlights will include a tribute to the renowned English playwright and screenwriter Sir Tom Stoppard, announced by President Vaclav Havel’s wife Dagmar Havlova, as well as a presentation of the annual Disturbing the Peace Award to a Courageous Writer at Risk by the Polish author and former dissident Adam Michnik.

The opening speech will be delivered by Ayad Akhtar, recipient of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Excerpts from the plays “Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Largo Desolato” will be directed by Michael Sexton, Director of the Public Shakespeare Initiative.
