Tomas Louzny is the winner of the 3rd annual contest

TOMAS LOUZNY is the winner of the 3rd annual contest for, “best mini-drama” based on one of Havel’s plays. This year’s contest participants tackled a quote from the Temptation: “My dear sir, truth is not just a simple matter of what we think. It also depends on why, to whom, and under what circumstances we say it.”

Tomas L PeruThe contest is organized by the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation (VHLF) together with the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and Czech Center New York. It is announced to students of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague who submit an original play that has not been published and will not be published before the announcements of the contest results. The contest is anonymous and the winner is selected by a Jury named by the Dean of DAMU.

The award includes a two-week residency in New York, full schedule of varied classes at Tisch School of the Arts, theater visits, and meeting with theater professionals. DAMU will prepare stage reading of the winning play and plays from the second and third places.

Tomas Louzny studies directing at the Department of Dramatic Theatre. He is looking forward to observing different approaches and to refresh his own work and theatre thinking. He will be coming to New York at the end of March, and is excited to catch the famous immersive piece Sleep No More by British company Punchdrunk, which is due to finish this spring after several years of successful run in Chelsea.
