Vaclav Havel Library Foundation together with The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York gives the annual VHLF Award to Czech Theater Student.

The innagural competition was announced on November 17, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution that was started by students in Prague. Apart from being one of the first revolution centers, DAMU was also the alma mater of Vaclav Havel, who was a student of dramatic arts by correspondence there from 1962 until 1966.

The first award was given to Petr Erbes, Jr., who won the contest for best mini-drama on the theme of Havel’s famous character Ferdinand Vanek. The winner has the opportunity to attend selected studios at Tisch School in New York for two weeks as well as visit numerous theater performances.
